MECHANICS AND STORY

Eddy will need to escape from a dream-like mansion where a scary-looking man has trapped him.

Luckily, he has found a living sword with magical powers.

The sword will be able reveal elements in the environment that will help Eddy discover secret rooms, invisible elements, and several more secrets.

GAME DESIGN OBJECTIVES
Our goal with the game was to create an adventure for the player. We wanted them to have a clear objective with different challenges while maintaining cohesion in the gameplay.
To grant this coherence we decided that the player needed to have a multi-purpose mechanic that would tie all the challenges. That's when we came up with the sword's scanner.
The scanner is the sword's ability to reveal or hide elements in a radius around it. This allowed us to create the different systems of the games with the scanner in mind (Combat, puzzles and platforming).
  • Combat: Basic attack (instantaneous) and spiral attack (requires charging). The scanner adds an extra layer to combat by giving the player the opportunity to hide the enemy's armour.
  • Puzzle: The scanner can be used to show or hide interactable elements, like draggable objects.
  • Platforming: Some platforms can either be activated or deactivated with the scanner.
The game received positive feedback and several gameplays were uploaded to Youtube, including this one from Alpha Beta Gamer, a channel with over 280k subscribers. This video has more than 23k views.
